Tighten Up a “Turkey Neck” with Sciton SkinTyte™

According to the 2020 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report, over 330,000 Americans received some form of non-surgical laser skin tightening in 2019. There’s no denying that thousands of us are on the quest for a smoother, tighter neckline. Unfortunately, the neck is one of the first places on our bodies to show the visible signs of aging like sagging skin, wrinkles, and the dreaded “turkey neck.” SkinTyte™ is a non-invasive, zero-downtime laser treatment that can help firm and smooth your neckline to a more youthful state!

What is SkinTyte™, and how does it work?

Collagen is one of the components of our skin that keeps it tight, plump, and smooth. As we age, the rate at which our skin produces collagen and elastin decreases significantly. As a result, we may begin to notice a slight sagging to our cheeks, jawline, and especially to our neckline. SkinTyte™, by Sciton® lasers, uses targeted infrared light energy to safely heat your skin to a therapeutic level that stimulates collagen production and causes contraction and remodeling of tissues in the deeper layers of your skin’s dermis. Over time, and with repeated treatments, skin becomes firmer, tighter, and noticeably smoother. The best part? SkinTyte™ is virtually painless, requires no topical numbing, surgery, or downtime!

Who is a good candidate for laser skin tightening with SkinTyte™?

It is essential to have realistic expectations about what laser skin tightening can achieve. SkinTyte™ is NOT a substitute for a surgical neck lift, but it can produce noticeable tightening on the right candidates. The best candidates include:

  • Adults whose skin is in healthy condition

  • Adults who are just beginning to notice the first signs of drooping or sagging in the cheeks, jawline, neck, and décolleté

  • Adults looking to prevent future sagging by boosting collagen production early

What is a SkinTyte™ treatment like?

During your SkinTyte™ treatment, your provider will cover your eyes with protective goggles or eye shields. She will then apply a cool layer of gel to your skin, allowing the laser handpiece to glide across your face and neck comfortably. The laser energy of SkinTyte™ is delivered deep into the skin through a series of rapid pulses of light. As the laser stays in motion against your skin, it will gradually get warmer until it reaches a therapeutic level which causes collagen remodeling. Most patients find their 30-45 minute SkinTyte™ treatment incredibly comfortable, and some even fall asleep!

When will I see results with SkinTyte™?

Immediately following your SkinTyte™ treatment, your skin will be slightly warm and flushed. Many patients love the way their skin looks after SkinTyte™ and will even schedule it ahead of special events to take advantage of their “post-procedure glow.” This vibrancy results from increased circulation in your skin due to the heat and motion of the laser. Although any redness will quickly subside, your radiant skin can last for days!

Although you may see some improvements to your skin’s tightness with only one SkinTyte™ session, a treatment series is recommended for best results. How quickly your skin responds will depend on its ability to renew and remodel collagen, which varies from person to person. Collagen grows in a three-month cycle. Once SkinTyte™ has stimulated it, your results will continue to improve for up to three months after your last treatment.

How many SkinTyte™ treatments will I need to notice improvement?

For best results, Harmony Wellness recommends a series of four to six treatments, spaced three to four weeks apart. Multiple treatment series may be needed for those with a significant loss of elasticity in their skin. Expect to see your full results from your SkinTyte™ series about four months after your last treatment. It will take your skin time to grow, rebuild, and strengthen with the freshly stimulated collagen and elastin. The good news is that your SkinTyte™ results can last several years! We recommend maintaining with quarterly treatments or by repeating a treatment series every other year.
